BASF operates a growing number of facilities in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in Caojing. There BASF runs two joint ventures with Huntsman, Shanghai Hua Yi (Group) Co., Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical Co. Ltd. and Sinopec Shanghai Gao Qiao Petrochemical Corp., which manufacture polyurethane components, methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI).
TDI and MDI are key components for the production of polyurethanes used in the automotive and construction industries and in products such as refrigerators, upholstery, mattresses and footwear.
BASF has invested more than $1 billion in this site location and commercial production started in 2006.
