Powder Handling for toxic powders
Documentation
This Case Study highlights De Dietrich Process Systems’ capabilities to manage a Powder Handling Project for toxic powders
In the Chemical Industry, chromium compounds are frequently used in applications involving the production of corrosion protection agents as well as chromium plating. These compounds are usually carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction. They can also cause allergies, asthma, eczema, eye irritation and breathing difficulties.
The goal was to develop a system for which chromic acid drums could be opened, emptied and cleaned without operator contact. For this purpose:
- The drums needed to be opened in a glove box
- A vacuum suction lance was required to suck the solid chromic acid out of the drums directly into the production vessel
- The empty drum had to be cleaned with liquid and returned to the operator for removal
